Happy New year to everyone who follows
target="_blank">The Whisky Guy site
/blog and thanks
for hanging in over the last couple of months while posts have been
a little sparse. We’re into a new year whisk(e)y fans and it
promises to be filled with some delights from around the globe.
Some basics mainstays for 2011 include the Islay Whisky Festival in
May, Maltstock in September and a new one on my annual calendar is
the November Glasgow Whisky Festival.

great year and I want to take a minute to look back at all it had
to offer. To start with on the net we’ve seen the rise of some
great bloggers such as Joshua at JSMWS, Billy at the BBBlog plus
Caskstrength, Dr Whisky (hopefully we’ll see more of Sam when he
moves to London), Edinburgh whisky blog and many others* continuing
there hardwork to tell us what is new and interesting. For myself
2010 saw me leave the amazing team at The Scotch Malt Whisky
Society in London (don’t worry it was left in the extremely capable
hands of Mr Joe McGirr) and join the might retail force of href="http://www.masterofmalt.com" target="_blank">Master of
Malt. Heading to MoM has been great in itself , however,
the major highlight of the year (excluding my beautiful wife being
pregnant) was travelling to the States, Detroit, to catch up with
the guys a from CARL & MSU to learn more about their distilling
technology and meet some amazing artisanal distillers. Damn – fresh
apple vodka is amazing, plus distilling organic Rye whisky with an
accidental amount of horseradish in the mix burns the eyes like a
mother! Other note worthy events are:

  • Year two
    for the

  • href="http://www.whisky4movember.com" target="_blank">Whisky for
Movemberteam who raised over£1700 for Prostate Cancer
    awareness,
  • MoM releasing it’s second Movember
bottling with support from Richard Paterson.
  • The Whisky Squad being formed,
  • Ardbeg hitting 10yo,
  • Dave Brooms
    Whisky Atlas,
  • A fantastic Whisky Picnic in
    Edinburgh,
  • Kilchoman and Norfolk both turned
3yo and could officially be classed as whisky, plus much more other
    great stuff…

So what about whisky? Well,
the Panel of the

picked out five top drams
of the year. I’d agree with those selected and add in the Adelphi
41yo Bunnahabhain, Makers Mark 46, the Lagavulin Distillery shop
bottling, NOH 1977 and Double Distilleries to the mix for my
personal top ten. We’ll I look forward to sharing some great drams
with you soon and hope you all stay Passionate and Spirited!
