Douglas Laing – 27 year old Highland Park whisky

Posted on | January 7, 2011 | No Comments

Its the end of the first week back to work in 2011 and the guys gave me a bottle of Highland Park 27yo for Christmas so seem fitting as a toast to the end of a successful week at work.

The Whisky

Douglas Laing & Co ltd have bottled whiskies for 60 year, founded by Fred Douglas Laing. The old cask range was released in 1998 with a caveat that the single cask bottlings would only be available in limited numbers. But the initial 50 – to commemorate the company’s 50th anniversary. Now bottles are released at 50%ABV, unchillfillteredor or coloured and can hold some great value for money!

ABV:  50%

Bottled: 2010 July

Distilled: 1983 March

Nose: Sweet to the front – cinder toffee followed by burnt rope. The back is hiding light savory hints of spinach and fennel.

Taste: Very smooth heather honey creaminess on the front followed by a big spice and mild coke fire ash. Sitting in the palate the cinder toffee from the nose changes to the burnt sugar and autumn leafs on a bonfire. Time in the glass reveals the savory elements on the nose and quality of the wood used to age this dram. Vanilla pod and chamomile linger into the end This is an extremely pleasant dram which would truly fit sitting in front of a fire place late at night in a small bar in the orcadian winter.

Hope you all had a great week.

Keep passionate and Spirited!
